#7- Helm Street
Welcome to Helm Street. This view of the east side of the street (left photo) is taken looking to the south. A row of free-standing houses and their outdoor ovens stretch the length of the road. The west side of the street is a row of attached houses. At the near end is a walled yard. The barn is near the far end of the street. A portion of the back of the church is visible behind the buildings. To view the larger image (56K), Click here.
This visit starts at the far end of the previous images. On the west side of the street is this house with its small, fenced yard for livestock (left photo). It is located directly across from Helm's office. To view the larger image (104K), Click here. Moving northeast down the street, adjacent to the house, is the barn used in "Honor Thy Father." Opposite the barn, next to Helm's office is this stand-alone house. The two domed structures are the ovens for the home. To view the larger image (76K), Click here.
At the end of the street is another individual house, with a covered slab patio. This home would likely belong to a middle-class citizen, perhaps a craftsman or shopkeeper. To view the larger image (80K), Click here.
Further down the north side of the street are more homes.These have shared walls, rather than existing as stand-alone houses. This is very common in Spanish towns and cities, where the cost-conscious inhabitants used To view the larger image (64K), Click here.
At the end of the street is this interesting building - a large, open yard is behind this double-gate. The upper level appears to be living quarters, but in reality has no roof. To view the larger image (80K), Click here.
